- Eriko from Banana Yoshimoto’s book Kitchen. Even though I’m not sure how respectfull this can be - her it’s a very weird situation - the reaction of the protagonist to the reveal of Eriko being transgender was quite appropriate, IMHO. 

Aurrrghh!! How could I forget Family Compo?!? I LOVE that manga! 

Re: Sandman: I don’t think it counts if the character is brutally murdered.
